A new narrator will appear in the film "Avatar 4"
The development of the saga about Pandora's inhabitants may take an unexpected narrative turn. In the fourth installment of Avatar, should the project be realized, viewers will be introduced to a new narrator—a role that will be undertaken by Sigourney Weaver.
Shifting Perspective in the Saga's Continuation
According to the actress, it is her character who will become the primary voice of the story in the next franchise film. As Weaver noted in an interview, this decision is directly tied to the development of Kiri's storyline.
"I am the primary narrator of the next episode. It's an important part of Kiri's story," the actress commented.
Thus, Sigourney Weaver will become the third narrator in the entire Avatar film epic.
Who Narrated Pandora's Story Before
In the first two franchise films, events unfolded from the perspective of Jake Sully, Sam Worthington's character. His internal monologue accompanied the audience's introduction to the planet Pandora, the Na'vi people, and the conflict with the human colonists.
In the third installment, Avatar 3: Fire and Ash, the point of view shifted: the narrator became Lo'ak, played by Britain Dalton. This move had already signaled James Cameron's intention to experiment with narrative form and delve deeper into individual characters.
A Decision Made Years Ago
As Sigourney Weaver revealed, the idea to make her character the narrator came to the director long before active work on the later sequels began. According to her, she learned about this development a few years after the release of the first Avatar.
The actress clarified that James Cameron began planning the expansive story for the sequels only after the original film's staggering global success. It was then that the director's overall vision for the entire saga took shape.
"We didn't know about this until Avatar achieved such enormous success with audiences worldwide. He started writing the sequel scripts when it was decided to expand the saga, and he already had this grand story in his mind. I think that happened around 2013 or 2014," Weaver noted.
The Fate of Avatar 4 Remains Uncertain
Nevertheless, the future of the franchise's fourth installment is still not guaranteed. James Cameron himself has previously emphasized that further development of the series directly depends on the commercial success of the third film. The key factors will be its box office revenue and the level of profit it generates for the studio.
Thus, the introduction of a new narrator in Avatar 4 is already embedded in the saga's long-term concept, but its realization will hinge on audience reception and the financial performance of the preceding episode.
