(Thomas Jane will appear in the series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
The star of The Punisher joins the cult sci-fi franchise.
In the fifth and final season of the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, two legendary characters from the universe will make an appearance. They are Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy and Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, both familiar to fans of the original series.
Their involvement will be part of the show's concluding episode, the filming of which is already complete.
Who Will Play the Iconic Roles?
The role of Dr. McCoy has gone to Thomas Jane, known for the film The Punisher and a number of television projects. Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu will be played by Kai Murakami.
In the original Star Trek series (1966–1969), the character of Bones McCoy was portrayed by DeForest Kelley, while Sulu was embodied by George Takei. In later feature films featuring alternate versions of the characters, they were played by Karl Urban and John Cho, respectively.
The Series' Status and Studio Plans
Paramount+ officially renewed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for a fifth season in June 2025. It will be the final season and will consist of six episodes. The decision was announced ahead of the premiere of the third season, which launched in July.
What is Known About the Continuing Story
The release date for the fourth season has not yet been revealed. What is known is that the crew of the USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (played by Anson Mount), will continue exploring new worlds and face emotionally charged challenges.
The series showrunners remain Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers.
