Actress Danielle Deadwyler, known for the films Till and The Woman in the Yard, has been cast in one of the key roles in the upcoming reboot of the legendary series The X-Files. The updated version of the cult franchise is being developed by director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler.

According to sources close to the production, Deadwyler has been offered the role of one of the two lead investigators at the center of the new series' plot. As in the original The X-Files, her character will partner with a male counterpart, preserving the duo concept established by characters Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

The project has been in development since 2023. Ryan Coogler is writing the pilot episode, serving as an executive producer, and, according to preliminary information, will also take the director's chair. Work on the series is being carried out with the involvement of Chris Carter—the creator of the original The X-Files, which aired from 1993 to 2002 and was revived for two more seasons in 2016–2018.

Carter's participation underscores the creators' intent to preserve the spirit of the original while adapting it to modern realities and new audience expectations.

Connection to the Original Series

Earlier, Ryan Coogler confirmed that he consulted with Gillian Anderson, the actress who portrayed Dana Scully. This fact sparked active discussions among fans of the franchise and led to speculation about possible plot or thematic links to the original series.

Coogler himself emphasized that the new version would not abandon the key elements that made The X-Files a cult phenomenon.

"We plan to use both 'monsters of the week' and the overarching conspiracy plot. It wouldn't be The X-Files if we didn't do both. That's exactly what I'm working on now," the director previously stated.
