The famous actor, director, and producer is being sued for tens of millions of dollars in compensation.
American actor, director, and producer Tyler Perry is once again at the center of a legal scandal. Actor Mario Rodriguez, who appeared in the 2016 film Boo! A Madea Halloween, has filed a lawsuit against him, accusing Perry of sexual harassment and causing serious emotional harm.
The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles. In the court documents, Rodriguez claims that Perry allegedly harassed him over several years at his home in Los Angeles. According to the plaintiff, this involved "unwanted sexual advances" of a systematic nature.
According to the case materials, a key episode occurred in 2018. Rodriguez alleges that during this incident, Tyler Perry allegedly hugged him tightly and then grabbed his genitals without consent. The plaintiff emphasizes that these actions caused him severe psychological stress and long-term emotional consequences.
Mario Rodriguez played a minor role in Boo! A Madea Halloween as a character listed as "Fraternity Guy #10." In the lawsuit, he claims that Perry is guilty of intentional infliction of emotional distress and abuse of his position as an influential producer and director.
In addition to Tyler Perry, the lawsuit also names the film distribution company Lionsgate, which distributed the film. Rodriguez alleges that the company allegedly ignored Perry's misconduct and took no action to protect the actors. As a result, the plaintiff is seeking compensation of at least $77 million.
According to Rodriguez, his personal communication with Perry ceased in 2019, but even after that, the director allegedly continued to periodically attempt to contact him. The lawsuit notes that the decision to go to court was made after the actor read about another legal proceeding—the lawsuit filed by Derek Dixon, another colleague who had previously accused Tyler Perry of sexual harassment.
At the time of publication, Tyler Perry's representatives had not provided official comments regarding the new allegations.
