Kristen Stewart has hinted at a return to the Twilight universe — this time as a director

The actress and director has expressed readiness to direct a new adaptation of the cult vampire saga.

Kristen Stewart, star of the Twilight franchise, has unexpectedly expressed interest in returning to the cult vampire saga by Stephenie Meyer. This time, however, not as an actress but as the director of a potential remake. She made the statement during the Palm Springs International Film Festival while presenting her directorial debut, the biographical drama The Chronology of Water.

From Actress to Director's Chair

The Chronology of Water, Stewart's first feature film as a director, was released in limited North American theaters in December 2025 and was well-received by the professional community. Against the backdrop of this success, the actress, in conversation with journalists, shared her reflections on her early projects and the possibility of returning to them in a new capacity.

Commenting on the Twilight Saga films, Stewart emphasized her great respect for the work of the directors who contributed to the franchise's creation—Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz, David Slade, and Bill Condon.

"I love what each of those directors did with those films. They were so sincere, and batty, and weird, and honest — at a time when people really didn’t know what they were," Stewart noted.

Statement About a Remake

Her reflections then evolved into a direct declaration of readiness to undertake a new adaptation.

"If we could have a big budget and full support, I would love to do a new adaptation. Hell, yes, I’d do a Twilight remake. I’m ready, I’m down!" she stated.

As of now, no official plans for a franchise reboot have been announced by the studios, but Stewart's words have already generated a significant reaction within the industry and among fans of the saga.

The Franchise's Commercial Potential

Interest in Twilight remains high. A recent re-release of the first film, timed to the 20th anniversary of Stephenie Meyer's novel of the same name, earned $1.55 million on its opening day alone. The cumulative global box office for the entire film franchise exceeds $3.3 billion, making it one of the most successful teen-oriented series in cinematic history.

A Potential Symbolic Comeback

If the project does move forward, Kristen Stewart's return to the Twilight universe as a director could become one of the most symbolic and talked-about comebacks in recent years. For the actress, whose career has long transcended teen cinema, this would represent not a repetition of the past but a reinterpretation of it—this time from an auteur's perspective.

For now, it remains to be seen whether studios will show interest in the idea of a remake and whether Stewart will have the opportunity to realize her vision of the cult story in a new format.
