Bethesda will re-release Fallout: New Vegas for the game's 15th anniversary
The anniversary edition of the cult classic RPG will be released this summer and is already available for pre-order).
For fans of the Fallout series, it's a time of mixed feelings. On one hand, the television adaptation from Amazon Prime Video has become one of the most successful video game series in recent years, attracting a new audience to the franchise. On the other—gamers waiting for an announcement of Fallout 5 still have to make do with rare comments from Todd Howard and the Bethesda team, as the studio's main resources are currently focused on developing The Elder Scrolls VI.
Against this backdrop, Bethesda has prepared a gift for the fans: in 2026, a new game in the Fallout universe will be released. However, with a caveat: it's not a sequel, but a return to a well-known classic.
Anniversary Edition, Not a Remake
The studio has officially announced the release of an anniversary edition of Fallout: New Vegas, timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the cult RPG by Obsidian Entertainment. The release is scheduled for June, and pre-orders are now open.
Despite expectations from part of the community, this is not a remaster or a full-fledged remake, but precisely a re-release of the original version. Nevertheless, New Vegas is still considered one of the most beloved and deeply crafted games in the series, thanks to its complex moral choices, varied quests, and freedom of gameplay.
What the Anniversary Edition Includes
Bethesda's official description highlights the game's key features:
"Explore the vast expanses of the wasteland—from small towns to the glittering Vegas Strip. Choose a side in the looming war and forever change the fate of the region. Utilize the refined real-time combat system with V.A.T.S., Hardcore mode, and improved companion commands. In a massive open world with limitless possibilities, you can follow the main story, shift the balance of power, or forge your own path alone."
Thus, the anniversary edition banks on nostalgia and preserving the original experience, without significant technical or visual changes.
Still No Fallout 5
While many fans hoped the success of the series would accelerate the development of a new mainline entry, Bethesda is not yet ready to discuss a timeline for Fallout 5. The re-release of New Vegas appears to be a compromise solution—a way to maintain interest in the franchise and remind everyone why this game is still considered the gold standard for narrative RPGs in the Fallout universe.
While dreams of a full-fledged sequel remain in the future, Bethesda offers a chance to return to the Mojave Wasteland and once again make the choices that will decide the fate of New Vegas.
