Kate Winslet promises a second season of the series 'Mare of Easttown'.

The actress stated that the chances for a continuation of HBO's detective hit are now higher than ever.

Kate Winslet has, for the first time since the release of the series Mare of Easttown, publicly indicated that the project has a real prospect of continuing. In an exclusive interview with Deadline, the actress discussed negotiations with the show's key creators and mentioned potential timelines for the start of filming a second season.

Negotiations with Creators and HBO's Stance

According to Winslet, "substantive negotiations" have recently taken place between the main participants of the project — writer Brad Ingelsby, director Craig Zobel, the actress herself, and HBO executives. This development has given her the confidence to speak about a sequel for the first time.

"I think we are likely to do it. And I feel confident saying that for the first time," Winslet noted. She mentioned that if the project receives the final green light, filming for the second season could begin in 2027.

A Series That Wasn't Originally Meant to Continue

Initially, Mare of Easttown, which premiered in 2021, was conceived as a self-contained limited series. The story of detective Mare Sheehan from a small Pennsylvania town reached a logical and complete conclusion, and a return to the character was not considered for a long time.

Winslet admits the role took a toll on her, saying that working on Mare left her "exhausted but endlessly grateful." Nevertheless, the series became one of the standout television events of its time.

Critical Acclaim and Awards

Mare of Easttown was highly praised by both audiences and critics for its masterful blend of a tense detective story with a deep exploration of family trauma, motherhood, and life in a close-knit community.

Kate Winslet won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Her co-stars Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters also received awards for their supporting roles, cementing the show's status as one of HBO's major television successes of the early decade.

What Changed After Several Years

According to Winslet, the story was considered fully concluded after the first season finale. However, a few months ago, while the actress was working on her directorial debut Lee, conversations about returning to Mare resurfaced.

As she has previously emphasized, the key condition for a continuation has always been a "damn good" script. Judging by her current comments, the new version of the story has met that requirement, though all plot details are being kept under strict secrecy.

Potential Connections to Other HBO Projects

Adding to the intrigue is another HBO series by Brad Ingelsby — Task, starring Mark Ruffalo. This project is set in the same fictional Philadelphia universe.

Ruffalo himself has previously hinted that the storylines of the two series could potentially intersect in the future, though no specific plans have been announced yet.
