The remake of The Mummy has received a new title and a completely revised plot.

Lee Cronin's film is now titled Resurrected and distances itself from the classic franchise.

After years of rumors, controversial leaks, and discussions about test screenings, specific details about the new version of the horror film The Mummy have been revealed. The project, led by director Lee Cronin, has officially changed its title and conceptually moved away from the plot familiar to audiences.

New Title and Departure from Canon

According to the publication Feature First, the film has been renamed to Resurrected. The creators emphasize that this new version is not a direct reimagining or a continuation of the cult franchise, but rather a standalone story merely inspired by classic horror motifs.

This step confirms the authors' intention to move away from familiar archetypes and offer audiences a darker, more psychologically tense approach.

Plot: Disappearance, Return, and a Curse

At the heart of the story is a family of journalists, played by Jack Reynor and Laya Costa. Their younger daughter, Katie, mysteriously disappears in the desert after encountering an enigmatic woman. Despite the search, hope for her return gradually fades, and the family is forced to learn to live with the loss.

Eight years later, a disaster strikes: a plane transporting an ancient sarcophagus crashes. Upon opening the cargo, they find not a mummy, but a living, grown-up Katie. Her return home marks the beginning of a true nightmare—the girl brings with her an ancient curse that begins to tear the family apart from within.

Project's Tone and Place in the Director's Career

The creators describe the film as a "bold and twisted interpretation" of a classic horror plot. The focus is not on the adventure element but on family drama, the fear of loss, and the transformation of a loved one into a source of threat.

For Lee Cronin, Resurrected is the next project following the commercially successful horror film Evil Dead Rise, which has heightened audience expectations and attention for his new film.

Production Rumors and the Studio's Position

Previously, rumors were actively discussed online about production issues, a possible title change, and reshoots. The new information partially confirms the change in concept, though the studio has not officially commented on any production difficulties or the reasons for abandoning The Mummy brand.

The release date for Resurrected has not yet been announced, but the revealed synopsis makes it clear: audiences can expect a horror film that consciously breaks expectations and abandons the familiar formula of the classic movie.
