The premiere date for the next Godzilla film has been announced.

The sequel to the sensational blockbuster Godzilla Minus One will be released in the fall of 2026.

The follow-up to one of the most successful films about the legendary monster has received an official release date. Titled Godzilla Minus Zero, the film will begin its theatrical run in the United States and Canada on November 6, 2026, distributed by the company GKids.

Premieres in Japan and North America

Japanese audiences will, as tradition dictates, see the new Godzilla first. The premiere in Japan is set for November 3, 2026, just three days before the start of its North American release. The franchise rights holder, Toho Studios, has for many years adhered to the practice of giving priority screenings of Godzilla films in the iconic character's home country.

This schedule underscores the strategic importance of the domestic market for the studio while also reflecting the growing international interest in the Japanese version of the franchise.

What is Known About the New Film

Plot details and the cast for Godzilla Minus Zero have not yet been revealed. The creators prefer to maintain the intrigue, releasing only basic information about the project.

It is known that Takashi Yamazaki returns to work on the sequel as both director and screenwriter. He was the mastermind behind the success of the first installment and was awarded an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Phenomenal Success of Minus One

The film Godzilla Minus One, released in 2023, became a true phenomenon. With a relatively modest budget of $15 million, the film grossed $113 million worldwide.

In North America, it set a record by becoming the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film in the region's history—a significant milestone not only for the franchise but for Japanese cinema as a whole.

Critical Acclaim and a Historic Oscar

Beyond its commercial success, Godzilla Minus One received rave reviews from critics and audiences. The film also earned the franchise its first Academy Award in its 70-year history, solidifying its status as one of the most significant projects in the series' history.

Against this backdrop, expectations for Godzilla Minus Zero are extremely high. The announced premiere date makes it clear that Toho Studios intends to build on this success, maintaining the auteur-driven approach that has brought the franchise a new wave of popularity.
