Marvel has finally abandoned the reboot of Blade.
The vampire hunter will not receive a solo film and will only be featured in a team project.
The long-awaited reboot of Blade within the Marvel Cinematic Universe appears to be definitively canceled. According to journalist Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, Marvel Studios has decided to abandon the solo film about the iconic character and change the strategy for introducing him into the MCU.
What Sources Have Revealed
According to Sneider, Blade is no longer being considered for a standalone film. Instead, the character is most likely to appear as part of a Midnight Sons team. The journalist emphasized that this information comes from reliable sources within the industry.
Thus, Marvel has opted for a team format over an individual project, which had been one of the most troubled productions in the studio's current slate for several years.
Marvel's Most Difficult Project in Recent Years
The Blade film was announced back in 2019 at Comic-Con, and since then, its production has been plagued by continuous difficulties. The project endured the COVID-19 pandemic, writers' and actors' strikes, numerous script rewrites, director changes, and the departure of key crew members.
According to the latest available information, only Mahershala Ali, confirmed for the role of Blade, and Mia Goth were officially attached to the project in its final stage—yet even this could not save the film from its ultimate halt.
The Character's New Path in the MCU
Based on new reports, Marvel has decided to abandon the idea of a solo reboot in favor of a team film. It is assumed that the Midnight Sons team may include characters such as Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Elsa Bloodstone, and Blade himself.
As of now, the cast, director, and release date for this project have not been announced, and the studio has not officially commented on plans to launch the film.
Fan Disappointment and an Uncertain Future
The abandonment of the solo film essentially dashes fans' hopes of seeing a dark, mature interpretation of Blade within the MCU. The project had long been viewed as a potential turn for Marvel toward more gritty and atmospheric content.
Now, the future of the Daywalker directly depends on the fate of the Midnight Sons—a project that currently exists only at the level of rumors and internal studio discussions.
