"Battle by Battle" and "Hamnet" emerged as the biggest winners at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.
On January 11, 2026, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles. The big winners of the night were the films Battle by Battle and Hamnet, setting the stage for the 2025–2026 awards season.
The ceremony once again confirmed the Golden Globes' status as a key indicator ahead of the Oscars: victories for major studio projects, unexpected acting triumphs, and strong showings by streaming platforms have set the tone for the upcoming race for the top film awards.
"Battle by Battle": Leader in the Comedy Category
Warner Bros.' film Battle by Battle, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, was the most decorated project of the evening, winning four awards. The film triumphed in the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category, and Anderson himself was recognized for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Taking the stage, the director dedicated the win to his late colleague, assistant director and producer Adam Somner. Unexpected Wins and International Recognition
One of the evening's biggest surprises was the win for Brazilian actor Wagner Moura in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category for his role in the neo-noir Secret Agent. He beat out more established competitors and dedicated his award in his speech to "those who remain true to their principles in difficult times." Secret Agent was also recognized as Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language.
