Chris Pratt showed James Gunn a photo in a Batman mask and declined the role.
Marvel star reveals how he auditioned to become Batman and why that path is closed to him.
Chris Pratt, known to millions as Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy, has shared a story about how he once tried on another iconic mantle—Batman. In a new interview, the actor detailed his brief communication with DC Studios head James Gunn and the reasons why the role never became a reality for him.
The Photo in the Batman Mask and Gunn's Reaction
According to Pratt, he sent Gunn a photo of himself in a Batman mask, which had been pre-edited using graphic design software. "He just replied: 'Haha.' So it's safe to say that, alas, I won't be Batman," the actor admitted.
Chris clarified that this wasn't about an actual offer from DC but rather his personal attempt to enter the superhero universe of another studio. He described this move more as a joke and an experiment rather than a serious bid for the role.
Why Pratt Doesn't Want to Play Batman
The actor also explained that, in his view, the role of Batman is currently difficult to reinterpret in a new way. "I don't even know how you would play it. There have been so many Batmans already. What more can you do? You know what? I don't want to. It was never a real option, and I don't think I'm right for that role," he remarked.
Thus, Pratt has definitively closed the door on any possibility of participating in the DC universe and has focused on his future work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
New Opportunities for Peter Quill
Despite the closed door at DC, Chris Pratt's future at Marvel looks promising. The actor praised James Gunn's decision not to reunite his character, Peter Quill, with Gamora in the finale of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.
"It leaves more room to explore Peter Quill, because it's a trauma in his life that didn't end happily," Pratt explained. According to him, the character is now "in a position to define himself anew. He no longer has obligations to family, a wife, and all that."
When asked if he knew what awaits Star-Lord next, the actor gave an evasive but enthusiastic answer: "Yes and no. Things at Marvel are very fluid. They take it step-by-step."
What Fans Can Expect
Fans can anticipate the return of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill. Now, freed from the burdens of the past, the character is ready to open a new chapter within the grand narrative of the next MCU phase, which, according to its creators, will be filled with personal and cosmic challenges for the hero.
