Amanda Seyfried explained why she doesn't need an Oscar.
The actress explained why winning an American Academy Award is not a priority for her.
Hollywood actress Amanda Seyfried, known for her roles in films like The Maid and Anna Lee's Will, as well as being an Oscar nominee, shared her candid perspective on the significance of film awards in a frank interview. According to the star, an Academy Award statuette is not an essential element of success in the film industry.
Winning Isn't Everything, the Nomination Matters
"I've already accomplished so much without a statuette, why would I need one now?" Seyfried stated. She pointed out that true recognition lies not in winning, but in the nomination itself: "Do you remember who won the last ten years? It's not about winning; it's about the nomination. That's what really moves you forward." The actress emphasized that while a statuette is "nice," it's not vital: "In an acting career, longevity and making conscious choices for art amidst big commercial projects—which are enjoyable and pay well—are more important."
Focus on Work and Audience Trust
Seyfried has received Critics' Choice and Golden Globe 2026 nominations for her role in Anna Lee's Will and may potentially be shortlisted for the 2026 Oscars. The actress notes that for her, the trust of directors and audiences is more important than formal recognition: "In a career, there are ebbs and flows, and how you're perceived changes from day to day. But I am consistent in my choices, values, and needs."
Commercial Success and Role Selection
Seyfried added that she values projects that succeed both artistically and commercially: "Right now, I'm in a great place because The Maid was commercially successful. That doesn't always happen. Sometimes you're in a Mamma Mia!, and other times you end up in a Ted 2 or A Million Ways to Die in the West, which, despite expectations, don't break the box office." Her stance demonstrates a mature approach to her career: focusing on project selection and industry longevity is more important than formal accolades.
