McG has taken the helm of the "Baywatch" series reboot for Fox.
The director of the cult classic Charlie's Angels will helm the pilot episode and serve as an executive producer on the project.
Director McG, known for adapting the popular 1970s series Charlie's Angels into the blockbuster 2000 film and its sequel, is set to create a new version of the iconic show Baywatch. He will lead the production of the pilot episode and serve as an executive producer for the Fox series reboot.
Production and Filming Locations
The new television project is being developed as an action series by companies Fremantle and Fox Entertainment, initiated by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. Filming is scheduled to begin in March 2026 at the famous Venice Beach in Los Angeles and on the Fox Studio Lot in Century City. The production will benefit from a $21.1 million California state tax credit.
Concept and Casting
The series' plot will preserve the spirit of the original: spectacular rescue operations, complex interpersonal relationships, and heroism along the ocean coast. At the same time, the project will receive a modern reinterpretation with a new cast. The main characters will don the signature red swimsuits while patrolling the Southern California coastline. Active casting is currently underway.
Collaboration Between McG and Matt Nix
Baywatch will become the latest joint project for McG and Nix following their work on the series Turner & Hooch for Disney+ and True Lies for CBS.
Director's Upcoming Projects
In addition, fans of McG will soon be able to see his adventure comedy action film Way Of The Warrior Kid starring Chris Pratt in the lead role, underscoring the director's commitment to combining dynamic action scenes with light humor and family drama.
