Nick Frost revealed the "ritual" for playing Hagrid in the "Harry Potter" series.
The actor admitted to using manifestation techniques to secure the role of Hogwarts' gamekeeper in the new HBO adaptation.
British actor Nick Frost, known for films like "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead," shared an unusual story about landing the role of Rubeus Hagrid in HBO's upcoming "Harry Potter" series. According to the actor, he used a technique he calls "manifestation" on his path to securing the coveted part.
Manifestation and a Christmas Ritual
Frost revealed that, on the advice of his partner, he decided to literally "order" the role from the universe. His unique ritual took place during the Christmas holidays and included a marathon viewing of all eight Harry Potter films. Simultaneously, the actor handwrote the name "Hagrid" approximately 7,000 times.
According to Frost, shortly after this, he received confirmation that he was cast for the role, which only strengthened his belief in the chosen method.
Respect for Robbie Coltrane's Legacy
Speaking about the character, Frost emphasized his great respect for the late Robbie Coltrane's portrayal of Hagrid in the original film franchise. At the same time, the actor made it clear he does not intend to create an exact copy of the character already familiar to audiences.
"Hagrid has always seemed to me like a sweet, lost, hot-tempered, funny, and very warm-hearted child," Frost noted. He added that the series format, with each season covering one book, will provide a much deeper opportunity to explore the character's personality and inner world.
Reaction from Creators of the Original Films
Meanwhile, the remake has already raised questions from some members of the original film franchise. Chris Columbus, director of the first two Harry Potter films, admitted he was surprised to see photos from the series' set showing Nick Frost in a costume nearly identical to Hagrid's look from the 2000s films.
"Part of me thought, 'What's the point?' I expected everything to look different," Columbus stated. At the same time, he noted that it is both flattering and intriguing for him to watch this new take on a story that has become a cultural phenomenon.
One of HBO's Most Anticipated Projects
The "Harry Potter" series being developed by HBO is considered one of the most anticipated television projects of the coming years. The creators promise a maximally detailed adaptation of J.K. Rowling's books, focusing on details and characters who sometimes lacked screen time in the film format.
Fans are already actively discussing how much Nick Frost's interpretation will differ from the canonical image of Hagrid and what new perspective the series will offer on the beloved character. One thing is clear: attention to the project and its cast will only grow as the premiere approaches.
