New Dumbledore Calls J.K. Rowling's Views Unacceptable
Actor John Lithgow Comments on His Role in 'Harry Potter' Series Amidst Author's Controversy
Actor John Lithgow, cast as Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO 'Harry Potter' series, has publicly criticized J.K. Rowling's views on transgender issues. His comments came in response to questions about his decision to join the project, considering the significant public debate surrounding the author's statements in recent years.
Discussing his stance on the situation, Lithgow emphasized that he takes this issue very seriously. He stated that the literary world of 'Harry Potter' created by Rowling has, for decades, been seen as a story about acceptance, kindness, and standing against evil. The actor noted that the books have had a profound impact on several generations of readers and have become an important part of the cultural consciousness.
"Given all of this, I find it both ironic and unacceptable that J.K. Rowling now holds these views," said Lithgow, highlighting the contradiction between the humanistic values embedded in the books and the public statements of their author.
The actor clarified that he has never personally met Rowling and is familiar with her position solely through her publications and interviews. Lithgow also separately noted that the author is not directly involved in the series' production. According to him, he is working with a new creative team handling the television adaptation, and it is with these people that he finds collaboration important and interesting.
When Will the 'Harry Potter' Series Be Released?
The HBO project is conceived as a large-scale adaptation of all seven books in the saga, with each book being adapted into a separate season. Network executives have previously indicated that the most likely release window for the first season is the first half of 2027. The series is positioned as a more detailed and faithful reimagining of the story of the young wizard and the magical world, staying closer to the original literary source.
