Netflix Star to Take on Lead Role in New Version of French Drama About a Man Hiding Job Loss from His Family.

A significant casting change has occurred in the remake of the French drama 'Time Out' (original title: L’Emploi du temps, 2001), being directed by Scott Cooper. Christian Bale, who previously collaborated with the director on films like 'Hostiles' and 'Out of the Furnace,' has left the project, with Adam Sandler stepping into the lead role.

This marks a shift in Cooper's creative direction, while for Sandler, it represents another dramatic project within his active partnership with Netflix.

A New Phase in Adam Sandler's Career

Adam Sandler is currently experiencing a notable resurgence: following the release of the sequel 'Happy Gilmore 2,' which became a hit on Netflix, and the high praise for his acting in the drama 'Jey Kelly,' interest in the artist's new projects has significantly increased.

Earlier, Sandler jokingly stated that he intends to star in "at least 50 movies before I die—and at least 25 of them will be good." Judging by his choices, he seems to place the 'Time Out' remake squarely in that latter category.

What the 'Time Out' Remake Will Be About

The project is based on Laurent Cantet's 2001 film 'L’Emploi du temps'—a psychological drama about a man experiencing a crisis after losing his job. The hero hides his true situation from his family, continuing to leave home daily as if he were still employed at the office. The story gradually evolves into a profound exploration of loneliness, social anxiety, and the destructive pressure of expectations.

The American version will retain the core dramatic arc of the original while adapting it to a modern context.

Production and Collaboration with Netflix

Filming for the remake is set to begin on April 1, 2026, in Vancouver. Netflix will handle the film's production, making it part of the streamer's exclusive agreement with Adam Sandler. The contract provides the actor with creative freedom and a stable platform for both comedic and dramatic projects.

Scott Cooper has also previously worked with the streaming service, and this new film will continue his collaboration with the platform.

Replacing Bale with Sandler: An Unexpected Turn

The departure of Christian Bale, a frequent collaborator in Cooper's films, came as a surprise for the project. His replacement by Adam Sandler significantly alters the perception of the upcoming film, adding intrigue to how the lead character will be interpreted in the American version of the story.

The 'Time Out' remake already looks to be one of Netflix's most intriguing dramatic releases for the coming year.
