'Harry Potter' series to showcase Draco Malfoy's home life
The creators of the television adaptation of the beloved saga based on J.K. Rowling's books are promising to reveal new facets of familiar characters, with a particular focus on the Malfoy family in the very first season.
The upcoming HBO series 'Harry Potter' continues to see new details emerge, and this time, the spotlight is on one of the franchise's most controversial characters — Draco Malfoy. According to 14-year-old Lox Pratt, who takes on the role of the young Slytherin, viewers can expect an expanded look at the character's life beyond Hogwarts — including scenes set in his family home, something not featured in either the books or the original films.
Malfoy Manor and New Scenes Beyond Hogwarts
Lox Pratt has revealed that the series will significantly broaden the scope of the original narrative. In J.K. Rowling's novels, Malfoy Manor remained largely off-page until the final book, and the film franchise paid little attention to this aspect of Draco's life.
"I think in this adaptation, you get to see much more than you did in the books," the actor shared in a recent interview. "In the books, and the films too, most of the story is Harry's story. But, as showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod have said, the series will have a lot more detail. You'll see all the teachers in their offices. You'll see Draco at home. I won't reveal too much, but there are brilliant scenes that give you an insight into who he really is."
Thus, the project promises to delve deeper into the characters of secondary figures and show the wizarding world from new perspectives.
On-Set Work and On-Screen Father
Pratt also noted the warm atmosphere on set and specifically praised Johnny Flynn, who plays Lucius Malfoy.
The actor, currently involved in the promotional tour for the BBC's new adaptation of William Golding's 'Lord of the Flies', was generous in his compliments for his on-screen father: "Johnny is a wonderful person. I think we make a good duo on screen — or I like to think so. But he's a lovely guy with a special aura."
Warner Bros. Discovery Bets on Scale and Detail
The leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery is open about their high expectations for the series. J.B. Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming, emphasized that the team is approaching the project with maximum care.
According to him, the scale of the production, the level of detail, and the meticulousness in world-building are taking this new adaptation to a fundamentally different level. Perrette noted that the series format allows for a much deeper immersion into Rowling's universe, enabling them to tell more stories and show scenes that simply cannot be fitted into a standard two-hour film. He even described the project as a potential "streaming event of the decade."
When to Expect the Premiere
The premiere of the 'Harry Potter' series is expected in 2027. The creators promise not just a retelling of familiar events, but an expanded and more detailed reimagining of the story, with an emphasis on characters who previously remained in the shadows — including Draco Malfoy and his family.
