The creator of 'The Conjuring' is writing the screenplay for a film adaptation of the game 'Dead by Daylight'.
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster Team Up with Behaviour Interactive for Cult Horror Adaptation.
Production companies Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster, together with Canadian game developer Behaviour Interactive, have announced they are beginning work on a film adaptation of the popular video game Dead by Daylight.
Experienced Screenwriters Promise a Dark Atmosphere and a Gripping Story.
The screenplay for the film will be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alexandre Aja.
Johnson-McGoldrick is known for his work on 'The Conjuring' franchise, including the 'Annabelle' films, and brings years of experience in creating frightening yet well-crafted characters. Aja, famous for his intense and spectacular remakes (The Hills Have Eyes) and original thrillers (Piranha 3D), will serve solely as a screenwriter, providing the necessary dynamic energy and visual horror to the story.
According to Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum, their collaboration will give the film a "rare balance between character depth and unrelenting tension." Producers are currently searching for a director who can bring this concept to the screen.
The Original Game and Its Universe.
'Dead by Daylight' was released in 2016 and quickly achieved cult status. In the game, four survivors try to escape from a serial killer, with each match built on the principle of asymmetric multiplayer.
The project has expanded into an entire universe, including comics, board games, and other media formats. The film rights were acquired by Blumhouse Productions back in 2023, and the project now has its first screenwriters attached.
Experts note that the combination of Johnson-McGoldrick and Aja has the potential to attract both fans of the original game and viewers who appreciate quality horror with a tense plot and deep character development.
