Rosamund Pike Calls Film 'Doom' the Worst of Her Career
Rosamund Pike Reflects on Her Disastrous Experience Making 'Doom'
British actress Rosamund Pike has opened up about her regret over starring in the 2005 sci-fi action film 'Doom', calling it one of the worst projects of her career. According to the actress, her involvement in the adaptation of the cult video game turned out to be far less successful than she had anticipated at the start of filming.
The 47-year-old actress candidly criticized the picture, describing it as "one of the worst films ever made."
An Unexpected Offer Following Film Success
'Doom' was released just a few years after Rosamund Pike appeared in the James Bond film 'Die Another Day'. At that time, her career was only beginning to gain momentum, and the actress felt that virtually any opportunity was within reach.
According to her, the offer to star in the action film came while she was working on the adaptation of the novel 'Pride & Prejudice'. At the time, she believed that participating in a major sci-fi project would mark a new phase in her career.
The actress recalls being confident that if she could handle complex period roles, she could easily take on a dynamic science fiction action film.
Difficulties on Set
However, reality turned out to be quite different. On set, Pike encountered the scale of a major action project for the first time and quickly realized she felt out of her depth in that genre.
She was particularly struck by working alongside Dwayne Johnson, who already had a reputation as a charismatic action hero by then.
According to the actress, he was surrounded by a team of trainers and assistants, with workout equipment constantly present on set to maintain physical fitness. Against this backdrop, the young actress felt out of place, admitting she was "completely out of her league."
The Film's Failure
The sci-fi action film 'Doom', based on the famous 1990s video game, ultimately failed to meet its creators' expectations. Upon release, the movie received extremely negative reviews from both critics and audiences.
The film is often cited among unsuccessful video game adaptations, despite its involvement of well-known actors and a substantial budget.
Rosamund Pike herself acknowledges years later that this experience served as an important lesson, helping her better understand which roles and projects truly suit her acting style.
