Jenna Ortega's Erotic Thriller Remake Gets a New Title
Cult Classic 'Single White Female' Remake to Be Released Under a New Title
Studio 3000 Pictures has revealed new details about the remake of the 1992 cult erotic thriller 'Single White Female'. A year after the initial announcement, it has been confirmed that the project has officially changed its title and secured a screenwriter.
According to industry sources, the new version of the film will be titled 'Single Female'. The screenplay has been entrusted to playwright Sarah DeLappe. She gained widespread recognition for her play 'The Wolves', which premiered in 2016. The production was highly praised by critics and received the prestigious Relentless Award from the American Playwriting Foundation.
Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell to Star
The project will center on two young Hollywood stars—Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell. The actresses will not only play the key roles in the new version of the thriller but will also serve as producers on the film.
Producers Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva have also joined the project. However, the film has yet to attach a director, and no start date for production or release has been announced.
What the Original Film Was About
The original film 'Single White Female', released in 1992, was based on John Lutz's novel 'SWF Seeks Same'. The story centered on a young woman named Allie who, after a painful breakup with her fiancé, decides to find a roommate.
Her new roommate becomes a young woman named Hedra. Initially, a friendly relationship quickly develops between the characters, but the situation begins to change when Allie considers reconciling with her former lover.
A Story of Obsession and Jealousy
Gradually, Hedra's behavior becomes increasingly strange and unsettling. Her attachment to her roommate transforms into a painful obsession and jealousy. Soon, the young woman begins manipulating those around her and proves willing to go to extreme lengths to eliminate anyone who might come between her and Allie.
The original thriller became a notable hit in the early 1990s and achieved cult status among fans of the psychological thriller genre. The new version of the story will attempt to reimagine the familiar plot for a contemporary audience.
