Netflix's Live-Action 'Scooby-Doo' Series Reveals Its Cast
The new project will chronicle the origins of the legendary "Mystery Inc." team.
Netflix has finalized the casting for its upcoming live-action series, currently titled Scooby-Doo, based on Warner Bros.' famous franchise. The show will present an original origin story, detailing how the gang of amateur sleuths formed and first met the future legend—the dog, Scooby-Doo.
The Lead Roles and Cast
At the heart of the story are the iconic members of Mystery Inc. The cast has been assembled as follows:
• Tanner Hagen (The Pitt) will transform into Shaggy Rogers, Scooby's eternally hungry and lovable best friend.
• Abby Ryder Fortson (Ant-Man) is set to play Velma Dinkley, the smart and perceptive brains of the operation.
• Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) takes on the role of Fred Jones, the charismatic and stylish leader.
• Mckenna Grace was previously confirmed for the role of Daphne Blake.
This ensemble promises to blend youthful energy with the charisma and comedic dynamic characteristic of the original cartoons.
Plot and Concept
The storyline focuses on the gang's last summer at a summer camp, where old friends Shaggy and Daphne encounter mysterious events. At the center of the story is a puppy, who will eventually become Scooby-Doo, potentially as a witness to a supernatural crime. They are joined by a pragmatic Velma and a mysterious newcomer, Freddy. Together, they begin an investigation that will spark their friendship and future careers as detectives.
The creators promise the series will retain the mystery and adventure vibe of the original franchise while offering a more detailed and dramatic take on the team's backstory.
Production and Creative Team
The script has been penned by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who will also serve as showrunners. Production is handled by André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Lee London Redman, with support from Warner Bros. Television.
Toby Haynes (Andor) is set to direct the first episode, promising a high visual and dramatic standard for the production.
The First Live-Action Scooby-Doo Series
This project marks the first-ever live-action series based on the Scooby-Doo franchise, blending elements of adventure, mystery, and comedy. It is expected to attract both new viewers and fans of the original animation by offering a fresh take on a beloved story.
