Filming of the detective film "Black Silk" has started, starring Milos Bikovic.

The sequel to "Red Silk" will transport audiences into the world of spy intrigue in 1930s Shanghai.

Film companies Nota Bene Film Group, NMG Kinoprokat, and Art Pictures Distribution have officially announced the start of production on the film "Black Silk." The project serves as a spiritual successor to the 2025 hit "Red Silk" and promises audiences a more expansive and complex story.

A new plot and change of setting
While the first film took place within the confined space of a train, the events of the sequel shift to 1930s Shanghai—a city of contrasts where cultures, interests, and covert operations from various nations intersect.

At the heart of the story is a mysterious object codenamed "Black Silk." A tense struggle for its possession will unfold among the intelligence services of several countries. It remains unclear whether this object is a priceless artifact or a dangerous weapon.

The return of familiar characters
The creators are maintaining continuity with the first film. Milos Bikovic, Gleb Kalyuzhny, and Chinese actress Zheng Hanyi will all reprise their roles.

Their characters once again find themselves at the center of an international confrontation where every move could shift the balance of power.

Maxim Matveev to play Richard Sorge
One of the key new additions is Maxim Matveev joining the cast. The actor has been entrusted with the role of legendary intelligence officer Richard Sorge—one of the most renowned figures in the history of global espionage.

The inclusion of this character adds historical depth to the project and heightens its dramatic stakes.

An international cast
"Black Silk" continues the trend of international casting. The ensemble also includes Serbian actor Aleksandar Radojicic, Maya Giter, Alexey Takharov, Polina Kutsenko, Ilya Antonenko, and Sergey Annenkov.

Adding further authenticity to the project are Japanese actors Hiroyuki Mori and Junsuke Kinoshita, which is especially significant given the film’s Asian setting.

A focus on atmosphere and scale
The creators are emphasizing visual expression and historical authenticity. 1930s Shanghai is depicted as a place where luxury coexists with danger, and where covert operations and political games hide beneath a glamorous exterior.

"Black Silk" is expected to expand the universe of the first film, building on it with a more intricate plot, an international conflict, and grand-scale production design.

The premiere date for the project has not yet been announced.
