John Lithgow nearly turned down the role of Dumbledore due to J.K. Rowling’s stance.

John Lithgow has admitted that he seriously considered turning down the role of Albus Dumbledore in the new series but ultimately decided to stay with the project. The reason for his doubts was the public controversy surrounding author J.K. Rowling’s stance.

Internal doubts before accepting the role
According to the actor, he considered leaving the project while it was still in the discussion phase. Lithgow noted that he does not share the author’s views and has never met her personally.

Nevertheless, he came to the conclusion that the world of Harry Potter itself embodies different values. The actor emphasized that this universe, as he perceives it, stands against intolerance, bigotry, and the division of people.

"The world is on the side of good"
