The premiere date and title for the special Daredevil project have been announced.
Marvel has unveiled details on their new project bringing back Jon Bernthal as the iconic antihero. The studio has officially announced the special presentation centered on the Punisher, which was first teased back in February 2025. Titled The Punisher: One Last Kill, the project is set to drop on Disney+ on May 12, 2026.
Format and Style
This project is being positioned as a “Marvel Television Special Presentation,” following in the footsteps of experimental releases like Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The special is expected to deliver a more focused, hard-hitting story centered on one key character.
The Return of Jon Bernthal
Jon Bernthal reprises his role as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, and has also co-written the project alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green. The character remains one of the most defining roles of Bernthal’s career. He first stepped into the role during the second season of Daredevil back in 2016, which later led to his own solo series that ran from 2017 to 2019.
Connection to the Larger Marvel Universe
The special is scheduled to premiere on the same day as the season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again, a move that strongly hints at a narrative or thematic link between the two projects. The Punisher had already made his return in the first season of Born Again, which served as a bridge between the original Netflix series and the revamped Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What’s Next for the Character
Frank Castle’s comeback doesn’t end here. The character is also confirmed to appear in *Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day*, slated for release on July 31, 2026. Marvel is clearly building out Frank Castle’s presence in a big way, cementing his place in the current phase of the MCU.
Why Fans Are Excited
The Punisher: One Last Kill is already generating buzz, thanks to Bernthal’s return and the special presentation format that allows for a deep, gritty, and personal story. The creative team is leaning into the darker, more intense tone that fans have come to associate with the character—an edge that sets him apart from the rest of the Marvel lineup.
