Jamie Lee Curtis will go head-to-head at the box office against ‘The Avengers’ and Gollum.

Release date announced for the remake of ‘Murder, She Wrote’.

The feature-length version of the cult classic detective series ‘Murder, She Wrote’ has received an official release date. Universal Pictures will release the film in theaters on December 22, 2027.

Return of a legendary heroine
Jamie Lee Curtis will star in the lead role, taking on the iconic character of Jessica Fletcher — a writer and amateur sleuth.

This character became a cultural icon thanks to the original series, which ran from 1984 to 1996. Angela Lansbury portrayed Jessica Fletcher at the time, and her performance remains the gold standard for fans of the genre.

What the film will be about
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps. In the original story, Jessica Fletcher would unravel complex crimes taking place in the small town of Cabot Cove.

The remake is expected to retain the spirit of the classic detective series while offering a contemporary take on the story.

Who is working on the project
The film is directed by Jason Moore, best known for the musical comedy ‘Pitch Perfect’. The screenplay was written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, recognized for their work on the project ‘Dumb Money’.

Intense box office competition
The film will be released during one of the most competitive periods of the year — the Christmas holidays. On the same day, Sony’s animated project ‘Buds’ is set to premiere, along with a new romantic comedy from Nancy Meyers featuring a strong ensemble cast.

However, the main battle for audience attention will begin earlier: on December 17, two major releases will hit theaters — ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’.

The project’s chances
Despite fierce competition, ‘Murder, She Wrote’ could attract audiences thanks to its recognizable brand and interest in the detective genre.

Success will largely depend on how well the creators manage to refresh the classic story and offer viewers a fresh perspective on a beloved character.
