Alex Garland Begins Filming Adaptation of *Elden Ring*

Director and screenwriter Alex Garland is moving forward with an ambitious new project for A24, as production on the film adaptation of the культовой video game Elden Ring officially gets underway. Set construction is already in progress, with the first days of shooting scheduled for next week.

Project origins and development
The adaptation was initiated by Garland himself. The filmmaker personally reached out to developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco, then wrote a detailed 160-page script accompanied by 40 pages of visual materials. Garland even traveled to Japan to present the concept directly to game creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, who ultimately gave the project his approval.

According to insiders, Garland is aiming to faithfully capture the atmosphere of the original world. Elden Ring is known for its vast fantasy landscapes, dark aesthetic, and epic-scale battles.

Cast and characters
The film stars Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Cailee Spaeny in leading roles. Details about their characters remain under wraps, but they are expected to portray three central storylines tied to the Tarnished — heroes tasked with restoring the shattered Elden Ring and defeating demigods in a quest to claim the throne of Elden Lord.

Scale and expectations
The project is shaping up to be the most expensive film in A24’s history, largely due to its extensive visual effects and the challenge of recreating the game’s richly detailed fantasy world.

Released in 2022 with contributions from George R. R. Martin, Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and was named Game of the Year. The story follows the Tarnished as they battle monstrous demigods and attempt to restore the Elden Ring, fighting for control over the Lands Between.

The film is expected to become one of the most ambitious video game adaptations in recent years, appealing both to fans of the original game and a broad global audience.
