Amazon Cancels Gen V: The Boys Spin-Off to End with Season 2
The streaming service has decided not to renew the popular project, despite a strong start for its second season.
Following the release of Season 2, it has been confirmed that Gen V, the spin-off of The Boys, will not continue. The series will conclude with its existing episodes, while its storylines will be integrated into the main shared universe.
Official Statement from Producers
Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg confirmed the show’s cancellation, noting that its story will not disappear entirely. According to them, the characters’ arcs will continue in Season 5 of The Boys, as well as in other future projects within the franchise.
The creators emphasized that, despite their interest in extending the series, they ultimately chose to focus on the broader development of the shared universe. This means that key characters from Gen V are expected to return on screen.
Release Timeline and Reception
Gen V premiered in 2023 and quickly gained attention from fans of the original series. Its second season was released between September and October 2025.
At launch, the new episodes delivered strong numbers: the first three episodes of Season 2 accumulated 424 million minutes viewed. This performance secured the show the eighth spot in Nielsen’s Top 10 original series ranking — its best result to date.
Audience engagement was particularly strong among viewers aged 18 to 49, who accounted for roughly two-thirds of total viewership.
Why the Series Was Cancelled
Despite its impressive debut, Gen V struggled to maintain momentum. After its initial release, the show quickly dropped out of the top rankings, only briefly returning once more during the season.
This trend likely played a key role in Amazon’s decision to discontinue the series as a standalone project. In an increasingly competitive streaming landscape, platforms are prioritizing consistent hits over shows with fluctuating viewership.
What Gen V Was About
The series was set at Godolkin University, a school for young individuals with superpowers. There, aspiring heroes trained and competed for a chance to join the elite superhero team, The Seven.
The show blended elements of teen drama, satire, and intense superhero action, maintaining the signature tone of The Boys with its sharp critique of the superhero industry and society as a whole.
What’s Next for the Franchise
The cancellation of Gen V does not signal a slowdown for the franchise. On the contrary, the creators are planning to actively expand the universe through new projects and continued development of the main series.
Season 5 of The Boys is already being positioned as a key chapter, where storylines from multiple characters — including those from the spin-off — may converge. This approach is expected to unify audiences and sustain interest in the franchise, even without a separate continuation of Gen V.
