Universal Shifts Release Schedule: The Mummy Set to Premiere Earlier Than Planned

The studio has revised its release calendar, swapping the premiere dates of two major projects.

Universal Pictures has made notable changes to its upcoming release schedule, reshuffling the dates of two high-budget films. The projects in question are the next installment of The Mummy franchise and a reboot of Miami Vice, which have effectively switched places on the release slate.

Universal’s Release Schedule Shake-Up
The decision is tied to the different stages of production. One film is significantly further along, while the other requires more time to complete.

As a result, the studio has adjusted its key release windows, prioritizing the project that is closer to finishing. This allowed Universal to move a near-complete film into an earlier slot.

The Mummy 4 Moves Up with Original Cast Returning
The new Mummy installment, directed by the Radio Silence duo, is now set to premiere on October 15, 2027, instead of its previously announced May 2028 release.

The studio is treating the film as a major release, supported by its cast. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, boosting interest in the continuation of the культовая franchise.

The reshuffle is likely linked to Kosinski’s busy schedule. Among his current commitments is a thriller project for Apple about a whistleblower who exposed UFO-related information.

The director’s workload may have been a key factor in Universal’s decision to free up an earlier release slot for The Mummy 4, which is already at a more advanced stage of production.
