Filming has begun for the sequel to the series “Once Upon a Time in Zalesye”
The second season of the detective melodrama will bring viewers back to the story of Major Vasilisa Zhuravlyova.
Filming for the new season of Once Upon a Time in Zalesye has begun in Moscow. Production will also take place in the Moscow region and the town of Torzhok, helping preserve the provincial atmosphere that is essential to the story.
Return of the Creative Team and Cast
Maria Makhanko returns as director for the second season, having previously worked on the first installment. Leading actors Maria Kulikova and Dmitry Miller reprise their roles.
The series also features Alexander Konstantinov, Mikhail Porechenkov, Valery Barinov, and Elena Panova. The expanded cast points to further development of storylines and a broader narrative scale.
A New Chapter in the Protagonist’s Life
The second season begins with Vasilisa Zhuravlyova attempting to change her life. Along with Zakhar and the children, she moves into a new home and considers leaving the police force.
She hopes to focus on her family and leave behind the stress of her job, but circumstances prevent her from doing so.
A Tragedy That Sparks the Investigation
The turning point comes with the arrival of Vasilisa’s old acquaintance, real estate agent Arsentyev. He intends to share important information but never gets the chance.
He dies right in front of her, and Vasilisa loses consciousness. When she wakes up, she realizes the crime has been staged in a way that makes her appear guilty.
Suspicion Falls on the Main Character
The investigation begins to point toward Zhuravlyova’s involvement in the murder, placing her in a highly vulnerable position.
Lieutenant Colonel Rykov is assigned to the case and imposes travel restrictions on her, effectively limiting her freedom.
Investigating Against All Odds
Despite being sidelined, Vasilisa refuses to give up her search for the truth. Together with Rykov, she begins her own investigation, trying to piece together what really happened.
The situation is further complicated by the lieutenant colonel’s personal feelings, adding emotional tension and internal conflict.
New Clues and a Widening Circle of Suspects
One of the key elements of the case is a mysterious audio recording featuring the voice of an unknown woman asking for help.
This clue opens up a new line of inquiry and gradually draws more residents of Zalesye into the investigation, including those close to the protagonist.
A Blend of Detective Story and Personal Drama
The second season continues to combine elements of a crime investigation with the characters’ personal journeys. Themes of trust, betrayal, and the choice between duty and family take center stage.
The expanded storylines and heightened conflict suggest a more intense and layered narrative compared to the first season.
