AI Excluded from Oscar Competition as the Academy Tightens Award Rules

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has introduced major changes to its rules, revising how films and creators qualify for the world’s most prestigious film awards.

Screenplays Must Be Written by Humans
One of the most significant changes concerns screenwriting eligibility. From now on, only scripts written by humans will qualify for Oscar consideration.

Alongside the restrictions, the Academy also broadened eligibility pathways for international productions.

Films that receive recognition at major international film festivals across Europe, Asia, and the Americas will now have expanded opportunities to qualify for Oscar consideration.
