Brendan Fraser Preparing to Return in The Mummy 4

Brendan Fraser has officially confirmed that he will once again play legendary adventurer Rick O'Connell in The Mummy 4.

The star of the культовая adventure franchise revealed that he is already actively preparing for filming and working to regain the physical shape required for the large-scale action project.

The Original Team Returns
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fraser explained that the filmmakers want to reunite the “old team” and restore the atmosphere audiences loved in the late 1990s and early 2000s films.

According to the actor, this is exactly the kind of sequel fans have been waiting for for more than twenty years.

Fraser suggested that the new installment will embrace the spirit of the original trilogy rather than completely reinventing the franchise.

Preparing for the Role Again
The actor admitted that for a long time he was unsure whether audiences truly wanted to see Rick O’Connell return. However, interest in the classic version of The Mummy has only grown stronger over time.

Fraser also joked that he is trying to get his “57-year-old machinery” back into working condition in order to handle the physically demanding role once again.

He added that the team plans to return to the adventurous style of the original films, including exotic locations and large-scale practical filmmaking that helped define the series.

Official Confirmation from Universal
Universal Pictures officially confirmed the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back in February 2026.

The movie was originally scheduled for release in May 2028, but the premiere date was later moved forward to October 15, 2027.

Who Is Making the Film
The project will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for their work on modern horror films.

The screenplay is being written by David Coggeshall.

The filmmakers now face the challenge of balancing nostalgia for the classic movies with a modern approach to blockbuster adventure storytelling.

A Franchise That Became a Classic
The original The Mummy premiered in 1999 and quickly became one of the defining adventure films of its era.

Its blend of action, humor, supernatural mythology, and charismatic characters helped turn the franchise into a cult favorite for an entire generation of viewers.

Now Universal hopes to recapture the same spirit that made Rick O’Connell’s adventures globally beloved in the first place.
