Seth Rogen Criticises Sylvester Stallone’s Filmography, Calls Arnold Schwarzenegger the Stronger Actor

Actor, writer and director Seth Rogen has made sharp comments about the legacy of Sylvester Stallone, questioning the reputation of many of the actor’s most iconic films.

Rogen made the remarks during an appearance on the Funny You Ask podcast, quickly drawing attention from fans of classic Hollywood action cinema, as his comments reignited the long-running unofficial rivalry between Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

A Harsh Assessment of Stallone’s Career

During the conversation, Rogen admitted that he finds Stallone’s filmography far less impressive than many believe. In his view, despite a career spanning more than five decades and dozens of projects, the actor has appeared in only a handful of truly great films.

Rogen was particularly critical of several popular action movies from the late 1980s and early 1990s. He specifically mentioned Demolition Man and Tango & Cash, saying that while both films have entertainment value and cult status among some audiences, he does not consider them high-quality cinema. He also expressed little enthusiasm for the iconic Rocky franchise.

Comparison with Schwarzenegger

The conversation naturally turned to the long-standing rivalry between Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was one of Hollywood’s most talked-about competitions for decades. Rogen stated that he views Schwarzenegger as the stronger and more influential figure in the action genre.

He specifically noted that Predator alone made a stronger impression on him than Stallone’s entire career. The comparison sparked mixed reactions among fans of both actors.

Stallone’s Legacy Remains a Subject of Debate

Despite Rogen’s criticism, many film critics and audiences continue to view several of Stallone’s works as an important part of American cinema. The original Rocky, released in 1976, remains especially highly regarded. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture and became one of the defining sports dramas of its era.

First Blood is also widely considered a major work in Stallone’s career. Many viewers see it not just as an action film, but as a powerful dramatic commentary on Vietnam War veterans and the difficulties of returning to civilian life.

Sylvester Stallone has not publicly responded to Rogen’s comments so far. The actor continues to remain active in film and television, maintaining his status as one of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars even as he approaches his 80th birthday.
