Google has made concessions to Disney and will delete all AI videos

Google Corporation agrees to comply with media conglomerate Disney's demands regarding the use of its characters in AI-generated content.

The decision was made after Google received an official demand letter from Disney earlier this week. In it, the company insisted on the immediate removal of video materials featuring its characters that were being distributed on YouTube and YouTube Shorts platforms.

Removal of AI Content Featuring Disney Characters

It is reported that Google has already removed a significant number of videos created using generative AI technologies. These videos utilized the likenesses of characters whose rights belong to Disney, including Mickey Mouse, Deadpool, characters from Star Wars and The Simpsons.

Disney's letter contained specific links to channels that had been publishing such content. It is noted that some of the videos were created using Google's own AI tool, Veo.

Connection to the Disney-OpenAI Agreement

Disney's demand came shortly before the announcement of a deal with OpenAI, under which over 200 of the studio's characters will be licensed for use in the Sora neural network. This agreement will allow users to create short videos featuring these characters on a legal basis.

Thus, Disney is seeking to clearly delineate permitted versus unauthorized use of its intellectual property in the field of artificial intelligence.

Ban on Training Google's AI Models

In addition to the removal of video content, Disney also demanded the cessation of using its characters for training Google's AI models. The letter included an extensive list of images to be excluded, featuring characters from franchises such as Frozen, Moana, Toy Story, Lilo & Stitch, and others.

Google agreed to all the stated conditions. The company emphasized its intention to maintain its partnership with the media conglomerate.

"We have a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with Disney, and we will continue to engage with them," stated Google representatives.
