First Images Revealed from Stephen King's Carrie TV Series
Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first images from its eight-episode adaptation of Carrie, directed by Mike Flanagan. The new version of the iconic story will bring Stephen King’s novel into the modern digital age, where school bullying extends far beyond the classroom.
Development on the project began in 2024, while official production started in spring 2025 after receiving approval from Amazon MGM Studios. The series will offer another reinterpretation of one of Stephen King’s most famous works while retaining the central themes of the original — loneliness, cruelty and the destructive power of human hatred.
The Classic Story Gets a Modern Update
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White. In the series, Carrie has spent her entire life under the strict control of her fanatically religious mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan.
Following her father’s death, Carrie attends a regular school for the first time, where she faces rejection and abuse from her classmates. In this new version, however, the threat is no longer limited to bullying in school corridors. The humiliation continues across social media, where a single embarrassing moment can instantly be seen by millions of people.
The constant pressure, public humiliation and overwhelming sense of isolation gradually awaken Carrie’s telekinetic abilities, which grow stronger alongside her emotional pain.
Mike Flanagan Returns to Stephen King’s Work
Mike Flanagan serves as the series’ director and writer. He is one of the most prominent contemporary filmmakers working in horror and is known for acclaimed projects such as The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.
Flanagan has previously adapted Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game, directed Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining, and made the drama The Life of Chuck. Stephen King is also involved in the new series as an executive producer.
The Series Features a Notable Cast
Alongside Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan, the cast includes Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder and several others.
The creators have yet to reveal all the plot details, but the series has been confirmed to consist of eight episodes. The first images highlight the dark atmosphere associated with Flanagan’s work and suggest that the new Carrie will preserve the psychological tension of the original novel while introducing timely themes such as cyberbullying, social media and the pressures of digital society.
The adaptation is already shaping up to be one of the most discussed interpretations of Stephen King’s classic, exploring how a story written more than half a century ago remains relevant in the age of the internet.
