Steve Buscemi Joins Far Cry TV Series Adaptation

Steve Buscemi has joined the cast of FX's upcoming Far Cry television series, the highly anticipated adaptation of the hit video game franchise from the creative team behind Fargo.

FX continues to assemble the cast for its adaptation of the iconic Far Cry games, with acclaimed actor Steve Buscemi officially joining the project. His casting suggests the series will blend intense action with the offbeat atmosphere and dark humour that have become hallmarks of many of Buscemi's performances.

The series is being developed by Noah Hawley, best known for Fargo and Legion, alongside Rob McElhenney. Previously announced cast members include Rob McElhenney and Lizzy Caplan, although details about their characters remain under wraps.

An Anthology Featuring a New World Every Season

Rather than adapting a single Far Cry game, the creators have chosen an anthology format, allowing each season to tell a completely new story with different characters, conflicts and locations.

The approach closely mirrors the structure of the video game franchise itself. Over the years, Far Cry has taken players from tropical islands and African landscapes to fictional American counties, while consistently exploring themes of survival, dangerous adversaries and ordinary people pushed to their limits.

The series will air on FX, with Hulu and Disney+ handling international streaming distribution.

One of Gaming's Biggest Franchises

The first Far Cry game launched in 2004 and has since grown into one of the world's most recognizable video game franchises. Over the past two decades, the series has expanded to six mainline entries along with numerous spin-offs and companion titles.

With more than 100 million players worldwide, the franchise's enormous popularity is one of the key reasons expectations are high for the television adaptation.

Steve Buscemi Could Define the Series' Tone

Buscemi's casting is particularly intriguing given his long history of portraying unconventional and unpredictable characters. He is widely recognized for his performances in Reservoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski and the acclaimed HBO series Boardwalk Empire.

His involvement in Noah Hawley's project suggests the adaptation could combine psychological suspense, satire and dark comedy—a blend that has become a signature of Hawley's work, particularly in Fargo.

FX has not yet announced when production will begin or revealed a release date for the series.
