Adam Driver to Play Magneto in Marvel's New X-Men Reboot
Star Wars star Adam Driver is reportedly in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Magneto, one of the most iconic and complex characters in the X-Men franchise.
According to industry insiders, Marvel Studios has chosen Adam Driver to play Magneto in its upcoming X-Men reboot. If the reports prove accurate, Driver will lead the franchise's new generation of mutants as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel is expected to make its first official casting announcements during San Diego Comic-Con, although the studio has yet to comment on the reports linking Driver to the role.
Adam Driver Reportedly Set to Play Erik Lehnsherr
According to insiders, Driver has been selected to portray Erik Lehnsherr, better known as Magneto—the powerful mutant who has long served as both one of the X-Men's greatest adversaries and one of Marvel's most morally complex characters.
The role would be a natural fit for Driver, whose performance as Kylo Ren in the latest Star Wars trilogy earned widespread acclaim for its emotional depth and portrayal of a conflicted character torn between darkness and redemption.
At 42, Driver also fits the reported vision for Marvel's reboot. Rumours suggest the new X-Men team will consist largely of mutants in their early twenties, positioning Magneto as a more experienced and formidable figure whose ideological conflict with the younger generation will shape the story.
From Mister Fantastic to Marvel's Most Famous Mutant
Interestingly, Driver had previously been linked to another major Marvel role: Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. That part ultimately went to Pedro Pascal.
Now, Driver could instead take on one of Marvel's darkest and most layered characters. Magneto has always been far more than a traditional villain, with decades of stories exploring his philosophy, tragic past and unwavering belief that mutants must protect themselves from humanity at any cost.
Magneto Remains Central to the X-Men Mythos
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, Magneto has become one of the defining figures of Marvel Comics. A Holocaust survivor with the power to manipulate magnetic fields, Erik Lehnsherr dedicates his life to securing a future for mutantkind.
His enduring rivalry with Professor Charles Xavier lies at the heart of nearly every major X-Men story. While Xavier believes humans and mutants can coexist peacefully, Magneto sees humanity as an existential threat that must be confronted by any means necessary.
That ideological clash has defined the X-Men franchise for decades, and Marvel's reboot is expected to reintroduce both characters as key players within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
